Main Beach Overview
Originally Main Beach was known as Southport East. It was officially renamed Main Beach in 1967, so named because it was the main surf beach for the town of Southport. It was after some heavy duty reclamation of land around the mouth of the Nerang River in the 1950s, followed by the construction of the Sundale Bridge in the 1960s to access the narrow strip of the sand strip, and the subsequent land division projects, that a decision was made to establish a separate suburb of Main Beach.
These days, Main Beach is a bustling community of people who enjoy a low maintenance lifestyle, a great selection of outdoor activities, fine dining, and centrality to everything else the Gold Coast has to offer.
