Although Australia is home to a lot of coastal suburbs, there is none quite like Mermaid Beach located on the Gold Coast of Queensland. This quaint seaside haven received its name from the cutter HMS Mermaid. The nerdy Brisbane and Tweed rivers were discovered by John Oxley, an explorer who sailed aboard the HMS Mermaid in 1823.
The Kurrawa reserve borders Mermaid beach, which spans over two kilometres and attracts a myriad of beach and ocean enthusiasts all year round. The beach is known for its safe swimming and surfing conditions, which are regulated by the Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
Mermaid Beach is bordered by Broadbeach and Miami, which means exciting entertainment hotspots and delectable eateries are never in short supply. Another perk is the wide range of accommodation options for vacation goers that suits all budgets and preferences. Mermaid Beach is well-known for its sunny beach and is one of the most relaxing stretches of golden coastline in the nearby vicinity. It is popular with surfers, swimmers, and vacationers that want to escape the business of nearby cities. Beach fishing is another great activity to dive into at Mermaid Beach, with the Nerang jetty being the most popular spot for a great catch. Whether you prefer to pop your toes in the water or head out and catch that perfect wave, Mermaid Beach is an ocean lover’s ideal destination.
