It was, once upon a time, the terminus for the busy Cobb & Co coach services from Brisbane. The name Pimpama (pronounced Pim-pa-ma) is derived from an aboriginal word meaning “place of the soldier bird”. We’ll not discuss further as the more common name for this bird is the noisy miner – perhaps the least liked bird in Australia.

The suburb of Pimpama is approximately 41.4km2, with 34 parks covering approximately 3.9% of the area.

The population of Pimpama as at the 2021 census was 24,601 compared with 9,392 in 2016 – a growth of a whopping 161.9%. In terms of cultural diversity, the majority of residents were born in Australia (70.8%), with English being the predominant language spoken (87.7%)

The predominant age group is 20–29 years, primarily couples with young children and single-parent households.  Generally, people in Pimpama work in a technician or trades occupation. As at the 2021 census approximately 41.3% of homes are owned either outright (9.8%) or with a mortgage (31.5%) with 56.9% of homes rented. The average mortgage repayment is between $1,800–$2,399pm.
